Creative Writing Workshop - Grades 3rd - 8th - Creating Writing Workshop- Grades 3rd - 8th Is your child interested in learning about how to write stories? Do books and the worlds of fiction call to them? Are they willing to take the first step in trying their hand at writing? This is a call to arms! For anyone interested in taking a try at writing short fiction, this is the place to be! For kids wanting to learn what writing looks like, and having a safe space to try it out for themselves we welcome them to join us! The program will begin with a presentation about the craft of writing, what stories look like, and a few examples for kids to reference and enjoy. Then, they will have the chance to try their hand at writing themselves! At the end, we will give everyone an opportunity to present their work. This program is designed for kids with little to no writing experience, but want an opportunity to try and learn. (If a 7th/8th grader is interested, we also welcome you to register for both this instructional program, and the teen workshop happening right after, to apply what you've learned with more freedom and time!) We look forward to reading the worlds you create!Instructors: Michael & Marin Also, if you or your child is interested in this becoming an ongoing class, or if parents/other adults would be interested in an adult workshop, please let the Parks & Recreation Department & Michael know! We would be happy to offer one with enough interest from the Kingston community!

Creative Writing Workshop - Grades 7th - 12th - Creating Writing Workshop- Grades 7th - 12th Has your child ever wanted the opportunity to sit down and put that world stuck in their head on paper? Never had the motivation, resources, or just the time to sit down and try? Or maybe they love writing, and wanting to meet new people who feel the same way? We are offering a writing workshop for Teens at the Kingston Parks & Recreation Department! With a duo of instructors prepared to instruct and lead the group, while also being open to working with teens individually on their own personal projects, this is for anyone regardless of skill level or experience. This will be a work at their own pace environment, where we will do a group warm up, a brief instruction, and then a major time slot for participants to work on their pieces. At the end of the time, we welcome anyone to share their piece! Our instructors are both writers with Creative Writing degrees from Emerson College, and both working on their own novel debuts! (If a 7th/8th grader is interested, we also welcome them to register for both this program, and the younger group one, happening just before it, for a more instructional environment, and then using this program to apply what they've learned!) We look forward to reading the worlds they create!
